The Web Page has been set up by The Rainbow Trust to correct the misleading information about the Rainbow Lorikeet fed to the public of New Zealand by the Department of Conservation. This misinformation has resulted in the Rainbow Lorikeet being gazetted as an unwanted organism under the Biosecurity Act. A Commentary summarising four months research was sent to Dr Nick Smith the Minister of Conservation on 3 August 1999. The Commentary examines each of the adverse claims against the Rainbow Lorikeet published by DOC in the "Rainbow Lorikeet Fact Sheet" , and includes research summaries on the effect on the avifauna and horticulture in Australia. A copy of this research was also sent to the Minister of Agriculture on August 4, with a covering letter asking him to urge the Minister of Conservation to view the matter in a sensible perspective. A single page poster précis of the same research was distributed to 7000 homes in the Birkenhead area at the end of July 1999 by the Rainbow Trust.
